Na rota das Roças com o mar sempre presente.
Saindo de São Tomé rumo ao sul da ilha, o passeio é rico em paisagens, praias, cascatas e paragens em roças, essenciais para ficar a conhecer um pouco mais da história deste país.
A Roça Água-Izé é uma das mais importantes da história de São Tomé. Situada à beira-mar e não muito longe da capital, conta com cerca de 10 hectares.
O seu proprietário original, João Maria de Sousa de Almeida, foi o responsável por introduzir os primeiros grãos de cacau na ilha, iniciando a sua produção, bem como a de café, em 1855. Devido aos investimentos na Roça e aos seus feitos que contribuíram para a economia do local e do país, ficou conhecida como a Fazenda da Praia-Rei e a ele foi concedido, por D. Luís I de Portugal, o título nobiliárquico de 1º Barão de Água-Izé.
A organização da Roça era muito inovadora: estava dividida em distritos e dependências, tinha dois hospitais, sanzalas, casa senhorial, casas comboio e casa do feitor. Hoje, serve de habitação à comunidade local, que vive essencialmente da agricultura, pesca, criação de gado e turismo.
À frente da “Causa Água-Izé” está o Presidente da Associação Roça Mundo, que é, também, o conhecido chef e apresentador do programa “Na Roça com os Tachos”, o João Carlos da Silva.
Esta figura muito simpática e internacionalmente conhecida é, igualmente, responsável pela Roça de São João dos Angolares; um projeto social maravilhoso que dá formação e trabalho na sua cozinha, a vários jovens locais. Aqui é possível desfrutar de um menu degustação de produtos maioritariamente autóctones que, além de ser delicioso, sabe bem por todas as razões!
Porque o calor aperta, não perca a oportunidade de se refrescar numa de muitas praias espetaculares ou, então, em todas elas: a Praia das 7 Ondas, a Praia de Micondó ou a cascata de Praia Pesqueira.
Avançando rumo a sul, pela Estrada Nacional 2, verá o Pico Cão Grande a surgir no horizonte. Este é uma elevação de origem vulcânica, cujo cume se encontra a 663 metros acima do nível do mar.
O passeio termina em grande, na Praia Inhame. Um pedaço de paraíso, deslumbrante, com águas cristalinas e o Ilhéu das Rolas ao fundo. Perfeito!
