Ainda nas redondezas de Sigiriya, mas noutra província, terá a oportunidade de sentir a simplicidade da vida rural e dos camponeses. Aqui, gostará certamente de ver os extensos campos de arroz, de andar num carro de bois, de fazer um safari ou de andar de barco no lago Habarana. Momentos tranquilos, em harmonia com a natureza, que vai guardar para sempre!

Esta cidade antiga é composta por um conjunto de edifícios – palácios, pontes, salas de reuniões, banhos reais, mosteiros e diversos templos – rodeados por um lago artificial.
Ocupa uma área bastante grande, pelo que alugar uma bicicleta ou um riquexó para passear à vontade, é uma excelente opção.
A cidade é construída em diversos blocos, sendo o primeiro o Grupo do Palácio Real. Este teria sido um edifício de sete andares, mas hoje só resta uma ruína de paredes grossas e pouco mais do que terão sido dois pisos. Ainda neste grupo, pode ver o Salão das Audiências, guardado por dois imponentes leões de pedra, bem como a piscina real.
Situado na parte mais antiga e sagrada, o quadrilátero é o local onde foram construídos os templos com mais importância. Destes faz parte o templo Vatadage, especial por ter forma circular, e por ter quatro estátuas de Buda sentado.
E por falar em Buda, as gigantescas estátuas de Gal Vihara talhadas em rocha não passam despercebidas. São uma das principais atrações deste magnífico local, onde se pode ver duas estátuas de Buda sentado, uma de Buda em pé e outra, a mais extraordinária do conjunto, um Buda deitado com 14 metros!
É, por tudo isto, e por todo o ambiente e envolvente, um local espantoso que faz pensar como foi possível construir tanta grandeza e criar tanta beleza numa altura em que tudo era feito pela mão humana, sem computadores ou máquinas elétricas. A não perder!
