Hiroshima mostra as cicatrizes da maior tragédia imaginável da história recente e um espírito de resiliência e recuperação que impressionam. Depois da segunda Guerra Mundial, a cidade foi reconstruída e é hoje moderna e dinâmica.
Para preservar a memória e promover o conhecimento dos efeitos das armas nucleares, Hiroshima criou o Peace Memorial Park, um monumento localizado numa enorme área onde antes se situava o centro comercial e de negócios da cidade, alvo da bomba atómica lançada em agosto de 1945.
Nesta visita, prepare-se para contactar com esta enorme tragédia contemporânea. Conheça um dos raros edifícios cujas paredes resistiram, no Atomic Bomb Dome; visite a Ponte Aioi em forma de T, que foi o ponto de mira dos pilotos do Enola Gay; veja, ainda, os vários monumentos simbólicos espalhados pelo parque e o Museu.
Prestada a homenagem e preservada a memória, mude de ambiente. A curta distância, na Ilha de Miyajima, maravilhe-se com o santuário xintoísta de Itsukushima, construído há mais de 1.200 anos, onde se destaca a enorme porta Torii construída sobre o mar, um dos locais mais fotografados do Japão.
Aproveite ainda para visitar o templo budista Daisho-in, um lugar estranho, carregado de simbolismo, com 500 pequenas estatuetas ao longo do caminho. Um sítio muito diferente de tudo, mas absolutamente fascinante!
