Esta é mesmo uma cidade cheia de história! E será, porventura, a cidade habitada mais antiga de toda a América, mesmo que se conte apenas a partir do momento em que era capital do Império Inca. Mais tarde, foi saqueada e transformada pelos espanhóis em grande cidade colonial.
Hoje, é Património Mundial da Unesco e, pela sua antiguidade e história, um local de visita obrigatória no Peru. Juntamente com o Vale Sagrado dos Incas e o Machu Picchu, é um dos destinos mais procurados e mais fantásticos no mundo.
Vale Sagrado dos Incas
O vale do Rio Urubamba, mais conhecido por Vale Sagrado, muito próximo de Cuzco, mistura locais de grande tradição e história inca, vilas tradicionais e coloniais, mercados coloridos, e encostas com socalcos centenários cultivados, excelentes trilhos para caminhadas e passeios a cavalo, e ainda atividades mais radicais como rafting e escalada.
Nesta área, vale a pena visitar e conhecer a vila de tecelãs de Chinchero; o fantástico lugar arqueológico inca de Moray; a vila e ruínas incas de Ollantaytambo, com as suas vistas únicas sobre o rio e região; as Salinas de Maras, assim como as povoações Urubamba e Pisac.
Machu Picchu
Bem-vindo à ‘cidade perdida dos Incas’!
Assim é também chamado Machu Picchu, um lugar de grande misticismo, frequentemente coberto de neblina, numa zona remota, semi-tropical, com vegetação luxuriante, onde se encontra uma antiga cidade inca, construída no início do século XV.
Durante séculos foi apenas conhecida pela população Quechua, descendente dos Incas. Os conquistadores espanhóis nunca lá chegaram e desconhece-se quando e porquê foi abandonada. O mundo apenas conheceu a existência de Machu Picchu no início do século XX, quando o explorador Hiram Bingham encontrou esta maravilha.
O acesso a Aguas Calientes, povoação vizinha também chamada de Machu Picchu Pueblo, apenas pode ser feito por comboio desde Cuzco ou Ollantaytambo, numa viagem mítica com paisagens muito bonitas. A subida desta povoação até à cidadela é feita em autocarros.
Em alternativa, a viagem pode ser feita a pé durante alguns dias por um dos centenários trilhos incas. Uma opção cada vez mais procurada que é uma aventura em si mesma, e que permite a chegada ao Machu Picchu diretamente a partir das montanhas, com uma vista deslumbrante!
