Sendo uma enorme ilha dividida por três territórios - a parte maior da ilha é indonésia, as outras duas pertencem à Malásia e ao sultanato do Brunei - Bornéu é muito especial, com uma das florestas equatoriais mais antigas do mundo – estima-se que tem cerca de 140 milhões de anos! – e um terreno perfeito para histórias de aventuras, com selva, montanhas, cavernas, rios, e uma diversidade surpreendente de espécies animais e vegetais, que devem ser preservadas a todo o custo.
Na parte indonésia, Kalimantan, a natureza é a joia da coroa. E aqui não faltam joias... de uma selva antiquíssima, onde moram, não só os ameaçados orangotangos, como também o elefante-pigmeu-de-bornéu, o rinoceronte-de-bornéu, o leopardo-esfumaçado-de-bornéu, entre outros; uma floresta pantanosa onde mora uma infinidade de pássaros, árvores e flores, entre os quais a maior do mundo – a Raflésia-Comum, que chega a pesar 11 kg! – e centenas de peixes!
Apesar da natureza ser o grande destaque, também a história é interessante. Tendo sido, desde sempre, um importante ponto de comércio, por aqui passaram diversos povos, culturas e religiões que, inevitavelmente, deixaram a sua marca ao longo dos séculos. Mas, hoje, ainda existem, também, povos indígenas que continuam a viver de acordo com as suas tradições e costumes, sendo uma oportunidade fascinante de conhecer outras formas de vida.
Ilhas Derawan
A leste de Kalimantan, as ilhas Derawan elevam o amor pela natureza a um ponto extremo, sendo um refúgio de sonho em especial para os amantes da vida marinha.
Menos turísticas, aqui vai encontrar praias deslumbrantes, com condições excelentes para mergulho e snorkeling. Afinal, pertencem ao Triângulo do Coral, a mais rica área de biodiversidade marinha, com mais de 800 espécies de peixes, mais de 500 espécies de coral e animais invertebrados, incluindo de espécies protegidas de amêijoas gigantes, tartarugas, caranguejos, entre outros.
Se acha graça a alforrecas, aqui encontra pelo menos dois lagos com estas insólitas criaturas. Por tudo isto, se gosta de vida selvagem, este é um destino a não perder.
